THE BOOK LAUNCH IN PRISHTINA

Gender Center Kosovo in cooperation with CIPS of the University of Sarajevo organized the book launch ‘’Contesting Female, Feminist and Muslim Identities. Post-Socialist Contexts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo’’ in the National Library of Prishtina on July 13, 2012. The book was promoted by Professor Dr. Vjollca Krasniqi, Besa Ismaili, MA who translated the book into Albanian and Dr. Zilka Spahić-Šiljak.

It was seventh book launch in the region, but this time in Prishtina the Albanian version of the book was presented, which was, as promoters emphasized extremely important contribution both to academic community and the broader public that would have the book available in their mother tongue.

Besa Ismaili pointed out that women of Kosovo have got an opportunity to speak for themselves and to be portrayed without censorship and hegemonic interpretations of their experiences and the contexts where they live.

Vjollca Krasniqi referred to the importance of the advancement of theoretical knowledge and experiences in respect to identity politics and also the importance of overcoming the essentialist approaches in determination of identities. Thus, the book opened the flour for new researches and thoughts about religious-secular, traditional-modern divide and other division.

After the book launch presentations students posed questions and the book launch became an interesting forum for discussion about the compatibilities of feminism and Muslim identities.
